#throwback #circles

Ms Professor sharing what she has learnt from watching the video on the different parts of a circle...

When finding the perimeter of figures involving circles, semicircles and quadrants, ask yourself this important question:

How many curves (arcs) and straight lines  make up the figure?

Use this question and the following strategy to help you find the perimeter:

1. Label the radius & diameter.
2. Highlight the straight lines.
3. Write the formula of the arc length(s) on the diagram.
4. Show all the steps. (Take note of the pi value to use.)
5. Check that all lines have been accounted for by using ticks.

Dear children,

Let's learn about circles!

CNN Pi Day Article

A FB post about Pi by our PM Lee
Happy International Pi Day! For the unacquainted, Pi Day pays tribute to the mathematical constant π, or 3.14159... (which is why I posted this at 1.59pm. smile emoticon ). But even if you're not a math lover, no need to be "Pi-Seh".
This year, Pi Day coincides with the start of the school holidays. Science Centre Singapore has plenty of activities planned
(http://www.science.edu.sg/events/Pages/PiDay.aspx). One is a game memorising the number of digits in π! So how many digits can you memorise? - LHL

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 to honor the famed irrational number.
